During the holiday season this year, Cupcast brings you the 12 days of Christmas, with something fantastically festive each day.
Check in with us every day as a countdown to Christmas Day, with our favourite holiday movies, carols, gift ideas, traditions, gifs, and jokes of the day. ‘Tis the season after all.
1. On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me… Twelve Drummers Drumming.
Drum roll please… It’s the last and final day of our holiday countdown, and the twelve drummers are here – beating as fast as our hearts as Christmas is around the snowy corner.
To go with today’s theme, we decided to provide you with Drums and Rums – listen to the tune of The Drummer Boy and sip some hearty winter rum cocktails, Christmas weekend has arrived.
First up. Get out the booze.
We’ve sampled some crazy good options for you today, from a chocolate hot buttered rum (yum recipe here) to a winter daiquiri (every season is daiquiri season, recipe here) and a spiced rum punch (surely has scrumptious punch to it!) (recipe here).
Got the rum? Now parapapumpum. (You’ll get it once the song plays)
Cheers <3 (Christmas cheers)
2. Christmas Song of the Day: 12 Days of Christmas
It only makes sense.
As you’ve loyally and lawfully joined us for 12 days this December, take a look back at all the gifts your true love has sent you:
1 Partridge in a Pear Tree
2 Turtle Doves
3 French Hens
4 Calling Birds
5 Gold Rings
6 Geese a-Laying
7 Swans a-Swimming
8 Maids a-Milking
9 Ladies Dancing
10 Lords a-Leaping
11 Pipers Piping
12 Drummers Drumming
I mean, how bad will everyone else’s gifts look in comparison?!
Lot’s of birds and lot’s of music, this version above is from The Big Sing 2010 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. “The Twelve Days of Christmas” is an English Christmas carol originally published all the way back in 1780, and is thought to be French in its origins. Often sung as skits or at school plays with young children, here’s a song that will make you say ‘partridge in a pear tree’ more than ever before in your life. A playful way to count down to Christmas, how merry are we now that we’ve reached number 12?
3. Christmas Movie of the Day: Home Alone
You knew it was coming.
Definitely the number one of our list, Home Alone is THE Christmas movie we look forward to watching every year. It’s the kind of movie that forever reminds you of your childhood, and forever ~secretly~ makes you want to be forgotten in your big house at Christmas time because you got a little grumpy with the fam the night before. Whether you’re freaking out like Kevin’s mom because you still have gifts to wrap, or you’re chillin’ like the villains that are Harry and Marv, we hope your holidays always turn out how Home Alone movies turn out. Lot’s of lights, lot’s of gifts, and the warmth of family and friends all around. Also, not getting in trouble for basically creating a huge mess.
(Seriously watch the trailer above, it’s such a great throwback)
4. On The Christmas Wish List Today: The Ice Cream Lock
“I’m terribly sorry but there’s no ‘u’ in ‘my pint’.”
You may need one of these for the holidays. Keep curious fingers and midnight snack sleep walkers at bay with Ben and Jerry’s ice cream lock, and enjoy aaaallllll the ice cream to yourself. Just… just don’t forget the password lock combination. (And also don’t make it 000).
Get it on Amazon for $23 here and nom nom nom.
5. Christmas Tradition of the Day: Merry Christmas to All in Portugal
In Portugal, the Christmas feast is called the ‘consoda’. Herein the family often sets extra place settings which are actually left empty throughout the entire grand meal, as they are reserved and symbolically stand for the deceased relatives. The practice is believed to bring good fortune to the family, and also encompasses the spreading of love and the importance of family at Christmastime.
If they’re peeking from heaven, we know they are smiling.
6. Christmas Gif of the Day: Santa Stop Here
